The Tamale Police Command has apprehended three suspected armed robbers, including two Level 400 students from the University for Development Studies, in a recent operation.
The suspects, identified as Peter Abugri (24), Asuma Shaini (22), and Yakubu Wakasu (19), were arrested following reports of an attack along the Bolga-Nasia road checkpoint. According to the victim, he was assaulted while relieving himself in nearby bushes, with the robbers wielding a pistol and a knife. They stole his iPhone 17 Pro, valued at GH₵21,000, and a Haojue motorbike worth GH₵19,000.
Acting on information obtained through the tracking of the stolen iPhone, police intercepted the suspects at the checkpoint, arresting one and recovering the motorbike. Subsequent searches at their hostels led to the capture of the remaining two suspects and the recovery of additional items, including a pistol, a jackknife, machetes, and other stolen property.
The suspects have since been charged and remanded to prison. The case is scheduled to continue on April 19, 2026.
Authorities have commended the swift action of the Tamale Police Command in curbing armed robbery in the region.
