Richard Kirk Mensah, Director of Communications at Ghana Gas and Western Regional Director of Communications of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), is facing intense public backlash following the circulation of an email screenshot suggesting he has been awarded a PhD.
Mr. Mensah has come under heavy criticism after sharing an image of an email titled “PhD Certification,” which congratulates him for allegedly passing a “PhD assessment.” The post has triggered widespread debate, ridicule, and skepticism across social media platforms.
Critics argue that the email, purportedly from an office described only as “international admissions,” lacks the fundamental details associated with a legitimate doctoral qualification. The message does not mention the name of the awarding university, its country of origin, the academic discipline, or the title of any doctoral research conducted by Mr. Mensah.
Instead, the email makes vague references to a certificate and transcript to be issued “in due course,” a detail critics say raises further red flags about the credibility of the claim.
Observers have called on Mr. Mensah, who occupies a senior communications role at a key state institution, to publicly clarify the matter by disclosing the university that allegedly awarded the doctorate and the subject of his research.
As at the time of filing this report, Richard Kirk Mensah has not responded publicly to the concerns, nor has he released any verifiable documentation to support the claimed PhD. Ghana Gas has also remained silent on the controversy.
