The government has announced a set of urgent measures aimed at reducing the cost of living, with a particular focus on fuel and transportation. President John Dramani Mahama has directed key ministries to take swift action to lower fuel prices in the coming days.
According to Cabinet decisions, the Ministers for Finance and Energy have been instructed to remove selected taxes and margins on petroleum products. The directive is expected to take effect in the next pricing window, approximately one week from now, and will initially run for a four-week period.
In a related move, the Minister for Transport has been tasked with accelerating the rollout of 100 newly procured buses for the Metro Mass Transit Limited. The buses will operate along major routes and are expected to charge fares lower than those of private transport operators, offering relief to commuters.
Additionally, President Mahama reaffirmed a strict ban on fuel allowances for ministers and senior government officials, signaling a push for cost-cutting within government.
