President John Dramani Mahama today co-chaired the One Health Summit in Lyon, France, alongside French President Emmanuel Macron, where he delivered a keynote address emphasizing the urgent need for a unified global response to emerging health challenges.

In his address, President Mahama reflected on the rapidly shifting global landscape, noting that many long-held assumptions are now being tested as the world grapples with increasingly complex health threats. He pointed to the rise of infectious diseases, antimicrobial resistance, and climate-related disruptions as key concerns demanding immediate and sustained international attention.

The President underscored the importance of the One Health approach, particularly for Africa, where the interdependence of human, animal, and environmental systems remains pronounced. He stressed that addressing modern health crises requires a holistic strategy that bridges these interconnected sectors.

Drawing on Africa’s rich cultural heritage, President Mahama highlighted the value of integrating traditional knowledge with modern scientific innovation. According to him, such a blend offers practical and sustainable solutions to both current and future health risks.

Highlighting Ghana’s efforts, President Mahama outlined several national initiatives focused on strengthening preventive healthcare and improving overall health outcomes. He reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to playing an active role in advancing coordinated global strategies to tackle evolving health threats.

The One Health Summit brought together world leaders, scientists, and policymakers to foster collaboration and develop integrated approaches to global health security.
