The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, on Sunday, December 21, marked the 9th Akwasidae festival with a colourful and grand celebration at the Manhyia Palace in the Ashanti Region. The event attracted chiefs, dignitaries, and thousands of citizens who gathered to witness the rich cultural heritage of the Asante Kingdom.
Held every six weeks, the Akwasidae festival is an important traditional event dedicated to honouring the ancestors and strengthening unity within the Asante Kingdom. The celebration featured customary rituals, drumming, dancing, and homage-paying by chiefs from various traditional areas.
The palace grounds came alive as chiefs, clad in full regalia, paid homage to the Asantehene amid rhythmic drumming, xylophone melodies, and the sounding of ceremonial horns. The festival concluded with prayers for peace, prosperity, and continued development in the Ashanti Region.
