Highlife singer Ofori Amponsah has denied assertions by veteran music producer Fred Kyei Mensah, popularly known as Fredima, that he played a direct role in introducing him to the legendary Daddy Lumba.

Speaking on Hitz FM’s Daybreak Hitz with Kwame Dadzie and Doreen Avio, Ofori Amponsah clarified that while Fredima helped him record his early demos, he personally approached Daddy Lumba without any accompaniment.

“It wasn’t Fredima who introduced me to Daddy Lumba,” Ofori said. “I went out searching for a producer by myself. I went around looking for people to help me. He did the demo for me and I had to take it around.”

He emphasized that he visited Lumba alone after completing the demo tape.

“I went to Daddy Lumba’s house myself, presented my demo, and the following day he said he had listened to it and wanted to see me. I went in and he said ‘I will help you.’ That’s all,” he recounted.

Ofori further stated that contrary to Fredima’s claims, he was the one who later introduced the producer to Daddy Lumba. He also revealed that he brought gospel singer Selina Orleans — who worked with Fredima — to Lumba when the highlife icon expressed interest in a gospel collaboration.

Fredima had previously claimed he personally drove Ofori to meet Daddy Lumba, reiterating the statement during an interview on Power FM three years ago. He also noted that Lumba once questioned whether Ofori had shown appreciation for his support.

Although Ofori acknowledged that Fredima discovered his talent and played an early role in his career, he maintained that his breakthrough connection with Daddy Lumba was his own doing.

Ofori Amponsah and Daddy Lumba went on to produce several hits together, including Wo Ho Kyere, Adu Da, Dangerous, and Odo Nti.

Meanwhile, Ofori Amponsah has released a new single titled “Waiting”, featuring rapper King Paluta.
