The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has constituted a joint committee to examine the final proposals submitted by the Constitution Review Committee (CRC) to President John Dramani Mahama and to advise the party’s National Council on its official position.
The party’s National Organiser, Henry Nana Boakye, announced the decision in a Facebook statement on Tuesday, December 23, a day after the CRC presented its final report to the President.
According to Mr. Boakye, the joint committee was earlier formed as part of the NPP’s engagement in the constitution review process and was responsible for developing and presenting the party’s proposals to the CRC. With the submission of the final report, the committee has now been tasked to carefully study the proposals and make recommendations to the party’s leadership.
The committee is jointly chaired by the Ranking Member on Parliament’s Constitutional and Legal Affairs Committee, Kwame Anyimadu-Antwi, and the Chairman of the NPP’s Constitutional and Legal Committee, Frank Davies Esq.
Mr. Boakye said the directive from the General Secretary underscores the party’s commitment to a structured and consultative approach to constitutional reform, adding that the NPP’s response would be informed by detailed analysis and collective deliberation.
He assured party members and the general public that the NPP’s official position on the CRC proposals would be announced after the internal review process is completed.
