The Upper East Regional Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Charles Taleog Ndanbon, has been arrested by the Ghana Police Service following a prolonged dispute over a party vehicle assigned to the Nabdam Constituency.
Mr Ndanbon was reportedly picked up by police near the Bolgatanga High Court after months of tension between him and the party’s regional leadership regarding a CHANGAN HUNTER pick-up. The vehicle was part of a fleet distributed to parliamentary candidates across the Upper East Region ahead of the 2024 general elections.
According to party sources, all candidates were directed to return the vehicles to their respective Constituency Executive Committees by December 9, 2024, after the elections. However, while other constituencies complied, the Nabdam vehicle allegedly remained in Mr Ndanbon’s possession.
The issue became a recurring subject at several Regional Executive Committee meetings. At one such meeting on April 9, 2026, Mr Ndanbon reportedly explained that the vehicle had developed a mechanical fault. He also maintained that his role as a regional executive justified his continued use of the pick-up.
A committee dispatched by the party later confirmed that the vehicle had a faulty clutch. However, tensions escalated when the vehicle was seen back on the streets of Bolgatanga on May 5, 2026, with Mr Ndanbon still driving it.
Attempts by party officials to retrieve the vehicle were unsuccessful, as Mr Ndanbon allegedly refused to surrender it, claiming he had approval from higher authorities within the party. This claim was strongly disputed by the Regional Executive Committee.
Following several failed internal efforts to resolve the matter, the Upper East Regional Chairman, Anthony Namoo, formally petitioned the police. In his complaint, he reportedly described Mr Ndanbon’s actions as impudent and insolent, accusing him of defying repeated directives from party leadership and engaging in gross misconduct.
The police subsequently effected his arrest. He was later granted bail after producing the vehicle at the Upper East Regional Police Command.
The CHANGAN HUNTER pick-up has since been retrieved and handed over to the Nabdam Constituency Executive Committee, bringing a temporary resolution to the dispute. However, the incident has sparked concerns within the party over discipline and internal compliance among its leadership ranks.
