The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has directed all government appointees intending to contest for party executive positions to resign at least six months before internal elections, as part of efforts to strengthen fairness and discipline within the party.

The directive, announced by NDC General Secretary Fifi Fiavi Kwetey at a media briefing on Thursday, applies to aspirants at the constituency, regional, and national levels. Those seeking constituency-level positions must resign by April 2026, regional-level candidates by May 2026, and national-level aspirants by June 2026.

“It is an issue of reducing the level of greed. If you want to work for the Party, you leave your position in government. You can’t have one leg here, and another there,” Mr. Kwetey said.

The directive covers ministers, deputy ministers, chief executive officers, managing directors and deputies, officers in analogous positions, and metropolitan, municipal, and district chief executives. Board chairpersons and members are excluded.

Mr. Kwetey emphasized that the measures are aimed at ensuring a level playing field for all contenders and fostering transparency, integrity, and collective responsibility within the party.
