A 56-year-old woman from the Bulemi community in the Weija-Gbawe Municipality is set to undergo psychiatric evaluation after admitting to preparing meals for her children using faeces and urine, prompting swift intervention from the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Agnes Naa Momo Lartey.

The disturbing case came to light following a viral video that sparked widespread public concern about the safety and welfare of the family. The footage quickly circulated on social media, triggering calls for urgent action from authorities.

The woman, identified as 56-year-old Leticia Okine, reportedly confirmed the practice along with her two children during inquiries at their residence in Bulemi Top.

Following a news report that highlighted the situation, the Minister visited the community to assess the circumstances firsthand. Accompanied by the journalist who broke the story, she engaged with the family before arranging for the woman to be transported to a health facility for comprehensive medical and psychological assessment.

Officials say the intervention is part of broader efforts by the Ministry to protect vulnerable individuals and ensure that those in distress receive the necessary care and support.

Authorities have assured the public that the welfare of the children remains a top priority, with further steps expected depending on the outcome of the psychiatric evaluation.
