President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, has announced the revitalisation of the Permanent Joint Commission for Cooperation between Ghana and Zambia, marking a renewed commitment to structured and results-oriented bilateral relations.
In a statement shared on Facebook during his visit to Zambia, Mr Mahama said the revived commission will provide a formal framework for collaboration across key priority sectors, including trade and investment, energy, tourism, mining, agriculture, education, science and technology, youth development, and defence cooperation.
As part of the renewed partnership, Ghana and Zambia signed 10 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) to guide cooperation between the two countries.
A major highlight of the agreements is an MoU allowing visa-free travel for all categories of passport holders between Ghana and Zambia. Mr Mahama described the development as a significant milestone toward advancing the free movement of people across the African continent.
“This is an important step towards the free movement of our people on the African continent,” he noted.
The agreements are expected to deepen economic ties, promote people-to-people exchange, and strengthen regional integration efforts in line with Africa’s broader development agenda.
Mr Mahama’s visit to Zambia forms part of his ongoing engagements aimed at reinforcing diplomatic, economic, and regional cooperation across Africa.
