Renowned Grammy-winning reggae artiste Gramps Morgan has been warmly welcomed to Ghana and installed as a Development Chief by the Ga Traditional Council during his visit to the country.

The Jamaican-American singer, a founding member of Morgan Heritage, arrived in Ghana for the first time following the passing of his brother, Peter Morgan. His visit coincides with the Ghana-Jamaica Homecoming Festival, themed “Ghana Meets Jamaica,” an initiative aimed at strengthening cultural and historical ties between the two nations.

Upon arrival, Gramps Morgan was received by the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Gilbert Abeiku Aggrey, along with other dignitaries. He was later formally welcomed by the Ga Traditional Council through a traditional ceremony that conferred on him the title Nii Oyeeni Mpese I, Development Chief of the state.

The honour recognises his contributions to global music and his role in promoting cultural exchange between Ghana and Jamaica. It also reflects his ongoing efforts to strengthen the connection between African and Caribbean communities.

Speaking during the ceremony, Gramps Morgan expressed appreciation for the recognition and the warm reception he received. “This is a deeply humbling experience for me,” he said. “Being here in Ghana connects me to my roots in a powerful way, and I am honoured to be embraced by the people.”

He further noted the importance of unity and shared heritage, describing the visit as more than a personal journey. “This moment is about building bridges between our people and celebrating who we are,” he added.

The Ghana-Jamaica Homecoming Festival is designed to promote tourism, cultural exchange, and a renewed appreciation of the historical links between the two countries. Organisers say the event provides a platform for collaboration in areas such as music, arts, and economic development.

As a three-time Grammy Award winner, Gramps Morgan has made a lasting impact on the global reggae scene. His involvement in initiatives that celebrate African heritage continues to inspire many across the diaspora.
