Ghana’s senior national team, the Ghana Black Stars, endured a difficult outing on Friday after being convincingly beaten 5–1 by Austria national football team in an international friendly.
Austria took control early in the match, with Marcel Sabitzer breaking the deadlock in the 13th minute. The early goal set the tone, as Ghana struggled to contain the hosts’ attacking momentum.
The pressure continued into the second half, and Michael Gregoritsch doubled Austria’s lead in the 51st minute. Just minutes later, Stephan Posch added a third, leaving the Black Stars chasing the game.
Ghana found a glimmer of hope late on when captain Andre Ayew pulled one back in the 77th minute. However, any thoughts of a comeback were quickly extinguished. Carney Chukwuemeka restored Austria’s three-goal cushion just two minutes later, before Nicholas Selwand added a fifth in stoppage time to cap off a dominant performance.
The result exposed clear defensive issues for Ghana, as repeated lapses allowed Austria to capitalize throughout the match. While Ayew’s goal offered a brief highlight, the team struggled to maintain structure and composure under pressure.
Attention now turns to Ghana’s upcoming fixture against Germany, where supporters and analysts alike will expect a stronger, more organized performance as the team looks to bounce back from this setback.
