Veteran Ghanaian actor Fred Amugi has stirred public discussion after revealing that, if life were to begin again, he would not consider marriage as part of his journey.

Speaking during an interview to mark Father’s Day, the respected screen icon said that while his marriage has often been viewed from the outside as calm and successful, his personal experience included private struggles that were not visible to the public eye.

According to him, many people assume that long-standing marriages, especially those involving public figures, are free of challenges. However, he noted that reality is often more complex than it appears, with couples facing issues that are rarely shared openly.

Amugi also reflected on how modern relationships have changed over time, pointing to shifting gender roles and social expectations. He explained that in earlier generations, women were more focused on home management, but today many balance household duties with professional careers and other responsibilities.

He added that this evolution, along with growing conversations around equality in relationships, has significantly reshaped how marriages function and how partners relate to each other within the family setting.

The actor made remarks suggesting that these changes sometimes create tension in marriages, as expectations between partners continue to evolve.

“If I had to start life all over again, marriage wouldn’t be part of the plan,” he said, adding that although outsiders believed his marriage was peaceful, he experienced underlying difficulties that were not publicly known.

Despite his candid reflections, Amugi stressed that he still values companionship. He suggested that strong friendships and mutual understanding can sometimes offer the emotional support people look for in traditional marriage structures.

His comments have since sparked widespread debate online, with many social media users weighing in on whether modern marriage is becoming more complicated due to changing societal roles and expectations.
