Former Interior Minister Henry Quartey has acknowledged that recruitment slots within the Ghana security services are sometimes sold to interested applicants, despite official procedures meant to ensure fairness.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Mr. Quartey explained that while there are official protocols for security recruitment, individuals who are allocated slots often end up selling them.

He noted, “It is often difficult to identify exactly who is responsible for selling such slots,” highlighting the challenges in monitoring the process.

Quartey recounted an incident from his time in office when he allocated a recruitment slot to an Imam in his Ayawaso Central constituency. The intention, he said, was for a qualified Muslim youth in the community to benefit.

“I gave the slot to the Imam so that a qualified Muslim youth could benefit from it, but later I realized the slot had been sold,” he revealed.

Using this example, Quartey emphasized that recruitment opportunities can be misused despite the system’s design to maintain fairness and transparency.
