The burial arrangements for the late highlife icon Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, have been thrown into uncertainty as his maternal family has filed an application at the Accra High Court seeking to block the release of his body.

In a writ dated December 3, five members of his maternal lineage—Obaapanyin Afia Adomah Pakoso, Robert Gyamfi (Wofa Yaw Poku Asuafua), Georgina Gyamfi, Ernestina Fosuh, and Nana Afia Kobi Pakoso—requested that the court order Transitions Funeral Home to withhold Daddy Lumba’s remains from any individual or group unless they authorize it.

The defendants cited in the suit include Kofi Owusu Abuakwa of Kumasi, CAL Bank Ghana, and Transitions Funeral Home.

The plaintiffs are also seeking an order to freeze the Daddy Lumba Memorial Foundation account at CAL Bank. They claim the account is being operated without proper authority and funds are being withdrawn to finance funeral activities without their knowledge or involvement.

They further demand:

A ban on the first defendant and members of a dissolved committee from accessing the foundation’s account

A full accounting and refund of any money withdrawn after the committee’s dissolution

An order restraining CAL Bank from honouring cheques signed by the first defendant

New signatories appointed by the musician’s immediate family head

A perpetual injunction preventing the defendants from making decisions regarding Daddy Lumba’s final funeral rites

Daddy Lumba’s burial was scheduled for Saturday, December 13, but the court application casts doubt over the arrangements.

The High Court is expected to hear the application today, December 11.
