The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has announced the suspension of its planned rollout of new vehicle number plates scheduled for next year, following Parliament’s inability to amend Legislative Instrument (LI) 2180 before the House rose for the Christmas recess.

The legislation, which requires a mandatory 21 sitting days to mature, had only been in effect for eight days before Parliament adjourned, making it impossible for the amendment process to be completed in time.

Speaking to the media, DVLA Chief Executive Officer, Julius Neequaye Kotey, explained that the delay has made it necessary to put the new number plate rollout on hold until Parliament resumes and the legislative process is completed.

Mr. Kotey assured the public that the Authority will announce a new timeline once the law has fully matured, stressing that the suspension is purely procedural and not a reversal of policy.
