Organisers of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards have confirmed that the much-anticipated Group of the Year category, which was absent from the initial nominees list, will be unveiled later this week.
Speaking in an interview on Hitz FM, Robert Klah, Head of Public Events and Communications at Charterhouse, assured industry players and fans that the category has not been scrapped.
“Oh yea, it will be announced this week. It could even be today,” he revealed during a discussion with Kwame Dadzie and Doreen Avio on Daybreak Hitz.
Klah clarified that the Group of the Year category is part of a few remaining categories yet to be released. He emphasized that earlier remarks had been misunderstood, stating that the category was never cancelled but simply pending announcement.
In addition to Group of the Year, other categories expected to be revealed include African Song and Music for Good. According to Klah, the decision to announce Music for Good earlier than usual is intentional, aimed at encouraging artistes to create socially impactful music.
“There are quite a number of things I may not be able to share,” he said when addressing the delay. “But the reality is that we did indicate that some categories would be announced later.”
The 27th Telecel Ghana Music Awards ceremony is scheduled to take place on May 9, 2026.
