Ghana’s Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has revealed that malfunctioning CCTV cameras at the Black Stars’ hotel in Vienna may have played a role in a robbery involving members of the national team.
Speaking on the incident, Adams said preliminary findings suggest that surveillance systems at the hotel were not operational at the time of the theft. Police are now investigating when the cameras stopped working and who was responsible for maintaining the system.
“The initial report we have is that the CCTV was not functioning, and the police are checking when it stopped working and who was responsible for the hotel’s surveillance system at that time,” Adams stated.
The robbery, which took place ahead of Ghana’s international friendly on March 27, 2026, resulted in the loss of $2,250 in cash and two Rolex watches belonging to players.
The development has raised serious questions about security protocols at the hotel, as authorities continue their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
