Dr Bernard Ato Otabil, Director of Communications at the Bank of Ghana, has called on journalists to uphold responsible economic and financial reporting in the face of rising misinformation.

Speaking at a PRINPAG training and workshop on economic literacy, Dr Otabil emphasized accuracy, context, and ethical journalism as critical tools for safeguarding public trust and deepening public understanding of economic issues.

He noted that in an era where economic news can influence markets, investor confidence, and household decisions, journalists play a crucial role in shaping perceptions and must therefore ensure their reports are factual, balanced, and well-interpreted.

According to him, strengthening journalists’ economic literacy will help reduce misrepresentation of monetary and fiscal policies and promote informed national discourse.
