Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed, Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, has emerged victorious in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primary for the Ayawaso East Constituency.
The primary was held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, to select the party’s candidate for the upcoming Ayawaso East by-election following the death of the sitting Member of Parliament, Mahama Naser Toure.
According to results from the two designated voting centres, Baba Jamal polled 431 votes to defeat his closest contender, Hajia Amina Adam, who secured 399 votes. Mohammed Ramme placed third with 88 votes, followed by Dr. Yakubu Azindow with 45 votes, while Mohammed Najib Sani obtained one vote.
The contest was keenly fought and attracted significant attention within the constituency. Following the declaration of results, Baba Jamal called for unity within the party, urging members to rally behind a common goal ahead of the by-election.
“With this win, I am committed to working together with all party members to secure the seat in the Ayawaso East by-election,” he stated.
Supporters and delegates were seen jubilating across the constituency as the party begins preparations for the forthcoming electoral contest.
