President John Dramani Mahama has called for peace in the Middle East amid rising military tensions following a coordinated attack on Iran by Israel and the United States.

Speaking at the National Eid Al-Fitr celebration at Independence Square on Friday, March 20, the former President urged world leaders to prioritise dialogue over conflict as tensions continue to escalate in the region.

He expressed deep concern about the humanitarian impact of the conflict, stressing that innocent civilians are bearing the brunt of the violence.

“As we pray to Allah, our thoughts are with those who are impacted by the continued conflict in the Middle East. Let us pray that Allah will grant comfort to the bereaved families, healing to those injured, and relief to those in distress,” he said.

Mr. Mahama also called on key global leaders, including Donald Trump, Benjamin Netanyahu, and Ali Khamenei, to take urgent steps toward ending the hostilities.

“May Allah touch the hearts of the leaders so that this war will come to an end,” he added.

Reflecting on the significance of Eid and the just-ended Ramadan season, Mr. Mahama emphasised the importance of compassion, unity, and service to humanity.

“Let us carry forward the spirit of Ramadan in how we treat one another, in how we serve our communities, in how we uphold justice and fairness,” he urged.

He further reminded Ghanaians of the country’s long-standing commitment to peaceful coexistence, noting that its diverse religious and cultural background remains a key source of national strength.

The former President called on citizens to reject extremism and division, encouraging them instead to embrace dialogue, kindness, and integrity in all aspects of life.
