Gyankroma Akufo-Addo, daughter of former President Nana Akufo-Addo, is facing mounting public criticism following renewed allegations circulating online about a purported $25 million contract linked to artistic works on interchanges in Accra.

Although Gyankroma Akufo-Addo has firmly denied the claims, describing them as “entirely false,” the controversy continues to generate debate across social media and among sections of the public who are demanding greater transparency around public art projects undertaken during her father’s administration.

Critics argue that the scale and visibility of the “Art for All” initiative, which involved painting major interchanges in the capital, raise legitimate questions about funding sources, procurement processes, and oversight. Some commentators have suggested that the absence of widely accessible documentation has fueled suspicion, even in the absence of concrete evidence supporting the $25 million claim.

In her latest statement, Gyankroma Akufo-Addo insisted that no such contract exists and challenged accusers to produce proof. She maintained that the projects were privately funded through the Creative Arts Agency, supported by private sector contributions and personal resources.

However, skeptics say the explanation has not fully addressed public concerns. Civil society voices and political observers have called for clearer disclosures, arguing that initiatives carried out at such a prominent national level should be accompanied by detailed financial transparency to avoid speculation.

The issue has also reignited broader debates about perceived privilege and access, with some critics pointing to her close ties to political power as a factor intensifying public scrutiny.

Gyankroma Akufo-Addo has announced plans to pursue legal action against individuals and media outlets spreading what she describes as falsehoods. While supporters view this as a necessary step to protect her reputation, others warn that legal threats could further inflame tensions and discourage open public discourse.

As the controversy unfolds, it highlights the growing influence of social media in shaping public narratives—and the challenges public figures face in addressing allegations in an era where misinformation and skepticism often spread faster than official responses.
