Akosombo Hydro Spikes win Eastern Regional volleyball gala

Akosombo Hydro Spikes, a volleyball team in the Asuogyaman District, has presented a Volleyball gala trophy they won in the Eastern Region to Paul Asare Ansah, the former Director General of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), the team’s latest bankroller, at his base, Aboasa, near Juapong.

The Hydro Spikes beat Donkorkrom three-one in the finals to lift the trophy, thus giving them the qualification to represent the Eastern Region in the National Unity Games to be held later in the country.

Emmanuel Insaidoo of the champion team was adjudged the Best Player, and speaking to the media, Godwin Okore Gbedemah, captain of Akosombo Hydro Spikes, was grateful to Paul Ansah for financially supporting the team from the start of the gala to its finish.

He, on behalf of the team, was more grateful to the former GPHA Director General for equipping them with training kits, as they prepare for the National Unity Games.

Paul Ansah was elated Akosombo Hydro Spikes made the Asuogyaman District proud, defying all odds to win the ultimate trophy.

With the crop of talents in the Hydro Spikes and the country, he said the needed investment in the so-called lesser-known sports could produce professionals for the country.

Sports, in general, he said, is another form of employment, and he commended the Sports Ministry for not neglecting the lesser-known sports.

Paul Ansah promised to bankroll the Hydro Spikes in their future competitions.
