Tennis courts to be restored at the Ohene Djan Stadium

Accra, June 21, GNA- Scrapped tennis courts at the Ohene Djan Stadium will be restored after the CAN 2008 Africa Cup of Nations which, commences on January 20.

Jimmy Castagna, Technical Director of Micheleti and Co Ghana Limited, contractors of the Stadium, one of the quartet venues for the biennial fiesta told GNA Sports that "it is part of the agreement to bring back the courts after the competition."

The reconstruction of the courts is expected to last four weeks. The renovation, which is expected to improve the standard of the courts from what it was before the commencement of the stadium project will reduce the number of courts by one.

"We will bring alive four courts instead of the previous five but the quality will obviously not be the same.

"The courts will not only be of the highest quality but will also have all the modern details."

Currently, the courts house equipment of the contractors. The space the courts rest on will meanwhile be converted to a car park for the VIP lounge and the media during the competition that brings Africa's 16 finest teams together.

The competition spans January 20-February 10. The courts were demolished in 2005 when the renovation exercise commenced for the 26th African Nations Cup competition - Ghana
