History was made at the Tennis Court of the Accra Sports Stadium last Saturday when two brothers, George Darko and Kwabena Ofosu Bamfo (KOB), met for the first in a final match of a tennis competition in Ghana.

After almost two hours of great display of skills in the game, Ghana’s number six seed KOB defeated his senior brother George Darko, who was the defending champion and Ghana’s number one seed.

Bamfo won the game by a score of 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 to take home the coveted trophy and an undisclosed cash prize.

The National Ranking Competition was instituted by the Tennis Professionals Ghana (TPG) to add up to their various competitions they engage in within the year.

After the competition, Kwabena Ofosu Bamfo, who was full of smiles, thanked his fans and manager, Mr Tomegah, for guiding him to win the tournament.

He said he was determined to make a mark in the competition and was happy his dream has been fulfilled.

George Darko, who won gold at last year’s All African Games, said it was unfortunate for him to have lost the tournament to his brother, but was also happy KOB won it.

He explained that he lost focus in the second set, which gave an advantage to his opponent to take the lead.

The two players have met on six occasions; George has won four out of the six meetings.
