McDan is taking tennis to a higher level – Dr. Mckorley

Dr. Daniel Mckorley, Chief Executive Officer of McDan Group of Companies, has said, his outfit is keen on developing and promoting tennis in the country, through the organization and hosting of high profile events.

“Tennis is a big business and we are taking Ghana Tennis to a higher level,” Dr. McKorley said this at the finals of the International Tennis Federation (ITF), World Tennis Tour Juniors (J5) at the Accra Sports Stadium over the weekend.

The sports philanthropist, was very happy for the successful host of the event, but was sad that no Ghanaian made it to the finals and urged players to be serious with their training so that, they can be among the best in the world, as the prize money for competitions keeps increasing.

He expressed appreciation to all the foreign players, who competed and advised them to keep raising the standard of the game.

Dr. Mckorley commended the coaches, who have been grooming the players and urged them to work hard to get a Ghanaian player, who can compete at the high level.

He was however happy with the Ghana cadets and juniors team, who have conquered West and Central Africa and ready to take on the whole of Africa and the world.

He noted that the children were the future and should be given the right investments to make the nation proud.

Mr. Kobby Owusu of Hollard, one of the sponsors of the tournament commended the winners and all players for their performance.

He said Hollard knows the benefits of sports and wants their clients to get involved in disciplines like tennis to be fit and healthy, adding that Hollard has come to stay in Ghana Tennis.

Mr. Eddie Annan, former vice president of the Confederation of Africa Tennis and former president of GTA, congratulated all the participants and the winners.

The Boys U-18 finals, was won by Mathi

The Girls final was taken by Han Shi (China) who defeated Hagar Ramadan (Egypt) 6-0,6-3.

The Girls Doubles finals went to Astride Cirotte (France)/ Martha Makantasi (Greece) who defeated Charlotte Mosbaek Ellegaard (Denmark)/ Olga Mishenina (Russia) 6-2,6-2.

Other winners were Boys Lumba Eshaan (India)/Youssef Nabil (Egypt) who defeated Politowicz Marcel (Polland)/Boris Stastny (Czech Rep) 6-4,7-5.
