Golden Rackets begin camping for African Tennis Championship

Accra, Oct. 26, GNA - The national Tennis team, the Golden Rackets have began camping for the impending Confederation of Africa Tennis (CAT) Africa Cup of Nations slated for Libya from November 7-14, 2010. The team made up of Raymond Hayford, Robert Kpodo and Jeff Bukari commenced intensive training on Monday, October 25 at the Tennis court of the Ohene Djan Sports Stadium, Accra under the technical guidance of coach Henry Quansah.

Emmanuel Sagoe, General Secretary of the Ghana Tennis Association told GNA Sports that the non-residential camping will have the players train on a daily basis to fine-tune for the tournament.

He said the team is expected to depart for Tripoli, Libya on Friday, November 5 to compete in the continental championship. Among the participating countries are the hosts Libya, Tunisia, Egypt, Morocco, Algeria, Ghana, Nigeria and Cameroon.

At stake is a monetary-prize of 2,400 US Dollars for the winners of the singles event with the first runner-up, second runner-up and fourth position pocketing 1,200 US Dollars, 750 US Dollars and 650 US Dollars respectively.

For the team event, the winning team will go away with 3,200 US Dollars, 1,600 US Dollars for the runners-up and 800 US Dollars for third place.

Tunisia are the defending champions of the singles event with Morocco the winner of the team's event. 26 Oct. 10
