Golden Rackets Cry For Attention

The national tennis team, the Golden Rackets have appealed for a more serious approach to organization and preparation as Ghana prepares for the Davis Cup playoff against Georgia.

The rackets who were trounced 50 by Finland in Euro-Africa zone group 2 Davis cup contest last weekend, have called on the tennis authorities to invest in their development in return for a good performance form them.

Tennis fans have attributed Ghana?s dismal showing in the Davis Cup to the late arrival of the foreign-based members of the team.

But number one seed, Henry Adjei-Darko, who arrived a day to the competition, says rackets, says the players had to embark on their ITF tours in a bid to earn some money for their career.

He told Joy Sports that they could only afford to fly in weeks before competitions if the government will provide them with the necessary incentive.

? I have to play a tournament, a satellite of features so that I can make money and I use the same money to settle my hotel bills but my own ticket and food and it is so expensive on the tour, when I was in Switzerland it caused me $800 and what Ghana does is that anytime there is a Davis cup, they just call you and I don?t think that is best, if Ghana wants me to play in the Davis Cup they have to give me money to train.? He said.
