Ghanaian Tennis Players Aim For Higher Ranks

About seven Ghanaian players will be seeking to improve their ranks at this year?s ITF West Africa Circuit in Togo and Nigeria from July 24 to August 28.

The players-Henry Adjei Darko, Michael Nortey, Emmanuel Mensah, Menford Owusu, Charles Quartey and Edmund Quarcoo- all locally-based players, will be joined by US-based Salifu Mohammed at the four legged circuit.

The first week of the circuit will be played in Lome while the remaining three legs will be staged in Lagos.

The young players will compete with others from the continent to improve their world ranking while striving for a share of the 6,000-dollar weekly prize money at stake.

Meanwhile, the 13 and under West African circuit ends in Lagos on July 31.

Ghana?s four-member team has been holding their own creditably against teams from about fourteen countries in the sub-region.

The circuit is primarily a training exercise aimed at fine-tuning the skill of the young players.
