Agyir squeezes through into semis of Milo Open

Fred Agyir, a member of the national tennis team, Golden Rackets, squeezed into the semi finals of the Milo open championship after surviving a first set scare from Richard Tetteh to eventually win 6-4, 6-2 at the centre court of the Accra Sports Stadium on Wednesday.

Tetteh was very impressive in the opening five games of the first set as he raced into a 4 -1 lead giving his much more experienced compatriot some anxious moments with well placed ground-strokes and crosscourt volleys.

Agyir who found the going very tough showed his frustration as he accused the empire of making bad calls.

But surprisingly Tetteh's game fizzled out in the sixth game as he doubled faulted twice to allow Agyir to break his service for the first time. The break provided the needed tonic for Agyir who raced through the set to win 6-4.

The second set, was much more easier for Agyir as Tetteh seemed to have lost the edge to compete after his serving was broken in the second game. Agyir then brought his rich experience to bear on the match as he broke Tetteh twice to win the second 6-2.

In the other quarterfinals matches, Daniel Fumi defeated Clemant Takie 6-4, 6-2 while Patrick Nortey beat Albert Doodo 6-2, 6-0 and Emmanuel Holm accounted for Sasu Jones 6-1, 6-0.
