Swansea City target Bristol City winger Albert Adomah

SWANSEA CITY are keen on landing Bristol City flier Albert Adomah – but look doomed in any bid for Blackpool’s Matt Phillips. Swans boss Brendan Rodgers is eager to bolster his front-line options ahead of a second season in the Premier League. And it is thought Ghana winger Adomah has been identified by the Northern Irishman as a player who can add competition to the wide roles after catching the eye at Ashton Gate.

Adomah, 24, has already attracted the interest of a host of Premier League clubs over the past 18 months with the Robins having to issue ‘hands-off’ warnings to potential suitors in January.

But Swansea could be ready to test Bristol City’s resolve with an initial bid of around £2m for a player who has two years left to run on his current deal. Rodgers has made it clear he wants to do his transfer business in the early part of this summer as he plots to build on an excellent mid-table finish in their Premier League debut. He has already made inroads on potential deals for Wales defender Chris Gunter while being linked with moves for Burnley midfielder Chris McCann and Blackpool forward Phillips. But it is believed Swansea have been told they have little chance of luring Phillips away from Bloomfield Road, despite Blackpool’s failure to win a return to the top flight via the play-offs. Phillips is in demand after his starring role in helping Ian Holloway’s side’s reach Wembley, where they were beaten by West Ham at the weekend.. Swansea were hopeful that a possible deal for the 21-year-old – worth up to £3m – could be on the cards and swayed by the inclusion of Stephen Dobbie in a part exchange. But sources in the north west have indicated that it would take a much larger fee to prise away Phillips. With the majority of Swansea’s transfer budget earmarked for a permanent deal for loan star Gylfi Sigurdsson, a significant hike would rule out Rodgers from a swoop on the former Wycombe man.

If Swansea secure Sigurdsson it will come at a hefty price – almost certainly doubling their transfer record – that will leave Rodgers looking to add to his squad with a series of players around the £2m-£3m mark. Adomah would come into Swansea’s budget and the pacy wide man would tick the boxes of the type of player the club are keen on. A former non-league player, Adomah has made rapid progress since signing for Bristol City in 2010, winning player of the year in his first season. He made 45 appearances Championship last term, earning international recognition with Ghana – although he pulled out of the recent training camp ahead of the looming World Cup qualifiers with a knee complaint.

Swansea are keen not to overlook young and hungry players who are seeking a chance at the top level and follow in the footsteps of the likes of Ashley Williams and Nathan Dyer, who have thrived at the Liberty. Rodgers will still be eager to bring a touch of star quality and there appears to be genuine hope of a loan deal for Manchester City’s Swedish wonder John Guidetti. The 20-year-old spent last season on loan at Dutch giants Feyenoord where he hit 20 goals in 23 starts, including three hat-tricks.

The youngster was left out of Sweden’s 23-man Euro 2012 squad, but is still viewed as one of the hottest prospects around.

Premier League champions City are likely to want him to further his experience and, although Feyenoord want to keep him in Holland, Swansea have placed themselves in the queue for a player told he could eventually be as good as Sweden star Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
