Price Of Ghanaian Football Players

...Essien valued at 60 million euros
Michael Essien remains the most expensive Ghanaian football player in the world with an estimated market value of 60 million euros, according to a research.

"The 24-year-old Ghana international joined the Chelsea in the summer of 2005 for 36 million euros from French powerhouse Lyon and is under contract until the summer of 2010, but any club that will require his services today will have to dish out close to twice that amount," according to the research done with the help of three FIFA-registered football agents.

"And there is only one club that can and might be willing to pay such a ridiculously high amount: Real Madrid," it continued

Sulley Ali Muntari (Udinese, Italy), a target of Portsmouth, Spartak Moscow and AC Milan, is the second most expensive Ghanaian player with an estimated value of 15 million euros. His transfer price has risen by a whopping 50%, since the world cup, due to interest from multiple European clubs. However, his disciplinary record is a real concern and might turn off potential suitors and thus drive his value down.

Stephen Appiah (Fenerbache, Turkey) is the third most expensive at 11 million euros. The value of the national team captain has remained steady due mainly to non-exposure, e.g. his club's elimination from this season?s UEFA champion's league.

All the other players are comparatively cheap.

Despite a good showing at the world cup and at his French club, John Mensah (Rennes) is still relatively cheap at ?5.5 million. The central defender was a reported ?7.5million target for English premiership side, Reading during the summer transfer market, but the move was blocked, despite the player?s clear will to leave.

Ibrahim Salou (Brugge, Belgium) is worth three million, but so far there have not been inquiries from any club.

Veteran Sammy Kuffour (Livorno, Italy) will still command a reasonably high transfer fee of around two million euros

Ciro Barusso, who plays in Italian Serie B, is surprisingly the sixth on the list. Liverpool, Inter Milan, AC Milan and Arsenal are among clubs tracking the young midfielder, who is yet to play for the senior national team. It seems likely the youngster will be sold in January, but at what price? The experts seem to agree on ?2 million.

"If there is a bidding war, then expect his price to go through the roof,? said one agent.

Asamoah Gyan?s (Udinese, Italy) value has dropped from about ?2.5 million after the world cup to just over a million. The striker?s club is currently maligned in midtable with Gyan not having the best of times himself having only scored twice in about 10 appearances.

The rest of the Ghanaian players are all valued under a million euros Isaac Boakye has seen the highest drop in the value of a Ghanaian player - Up from a high of 2.8 million euros, the injury-prone striker is now worth about half a million euros.

Despite his 11 goals in the Swiss league, Alex Tachie-Mensah will cost less than a million euros.

Mark Edusei is having a great season with his Italian side Catania, but that has not raised his market value.

Market value is ultimately determined by supply and demand. Deciding factors include a player's degree of fame, the strength of his play, state of health, and the remaining period his contract has to run. But it might also depend on whether a club is seeking to part company with him, or whether a top European club is expressing interest. The sum of money can skyrocket from one moment to the next. Equally, it can crumble.

It should be noted that the stated market value is not identical to the actual value for the club itself; however, the figures have not entirely been plucked out of thin air either?

We present below the market value of Ghanaians players in Europe. The transfer window opened on 1 January and European clubs have until the end of the month to make any new signings.
