Aviation Ministry- Job For The Boys (5)

The Lens can authoritatively reveal that the newly created Ministry of Aviation was specifically created to placate the NPP MPs from the Central region.

The Lens investigations have established that the NPP MPs from the Central region held a meeting to discuss, among other things, the representation of the region in the Executive. At the time of the meeting the only person from the Central region known to had been pencilled in for Ministerial appointment was the embattled Central regional Minister, Isaac Edumadze, known in some circles as Hercules, and Miss Christine Churcher.

A situation the NPP MPs considered unfair considering the massive support the region gave the NPP at the 2004 general elections, and they agitated and demanded for more Ministerial positions for the Central region. At one point a clear signal was sent to the Executive making it clear that the Central region expected not less than five (3) Ministerial positions in the new government.

Confronted with the umbrage of an angry but highly influential caucus of his party, Mr. Kufuor had no choice but to create a new Ministry with a highfalutin title- Ministry of Aviation- just to satisfy the aggrieved MPs.

Word from the NPP grapevine has it that the Central Region MP that is likely to be handed this ministry is on Stephen Asamoah Boateng.

Not even when Ghana's defunct airline, Ghana Airways, was operating at its peak or on the brink of collapse owing to gross incompetence on the part of the Kufuor regime, was a need found to create a Ministry to take care of Aviation.

The Aviation Ministry, a typical "Job for the Boys" creation, is sure to be another huge source of dissipation of national resources.
