Akufo-Addo Was A Failure-Intelligence Report

A special intelligence report on the performance of ministers of the then ruling NPP’s first term in government showed that Nana Akufo-Addo performed below expectations and scored a woeful C, forcing former President Kufuor to remove him from the office of Attorney General and Minister for Justice.

The report, carried out at the early stages of the second term, that is January 2010, described him as ‘Too arrogant with no people skills’ and gave him C rating on a scale of A to F.

Nana Addo, who was the Attorney General, made some mistakes that brought his legal knowledge under scrutiny. In the case against Mr. Tsatsu Tsikata for causing financial loss to state, he presented the case in court in the name of the President instead of the Republic.
He once again made an elementary mistake of preferring a charge from the 1992 Constitution against Tsatsu when the offense in question took place before the Constitution was promulgated.
He exposed his weakness as a lawyer when he lost the case of the constitutionality of the ‘law on causing financial loss to the state.’ He was eventually rescued by President Kufuor, who re-empanelled the Supreme Court to win the case after a review.
The report indicated that, the man who is today referring to President Mills as ‘Professor Do Little,’ made statements that gave him out as a person who had little or no knowledge of issues affecting his ministry, especially the Foreign Ministry.
For instance, he was reported to have said, ‘there would be a major overhaul of Ghana’s foreign policy’ when there was no foreign policy document at that time.
When various members of the public were interviewed to react to the ratings, a lawyer said, ‘he left the Justice Ministry in a mess,’ whilst a driver remarked, ‘too arrogant, a move to local government ministry will humble him.
Nana Addo, obsessed with his victory on August 7, made some derogatory remarks about President Mills, saying he had done nothing in less than two years in office. His remarks too many by surprise, especially considering his own performance as a minister for eight years as against the NDC’s less than two years in office.
The late Courage Quashigah, then Minister for Food and Agriculture, was rated the best with Grade A-, with very complimentary comments.
