Two NPP Men Blow 1.4 Billion On ‘Azaa’ Trip

By Joseph Ofosu-Koforidua

Documentary evidence and intensive instigations conducted by The Daily Democrat indicate that two former Municipal and District Chief Executives (MDCE) of Kwahu North and South under ex-president Kufuor’’s administration, Nana Kesse and Nana Onwana Asanti have allegedly blown 1.4 billion old Cedis under the pretext of embarking on an investment tour of Paris, France..

An amount Eight Hundred Million Cedis (‘¢ 800,000,000) was allegedly released to a company called Adiyie Event Management and Publications Consults to organize an investment tour to Paris, France for the two DCEs. Mr. Nana Kesse, former MCE for Kwahu North, released the said amount in August whiles Mr. Nana Onwana Asanti, former DCE for Kwahu South also released amount of Six Hundred Million Cedis (600,000,000) on June 2007 to the same Adiyie Event Management and Publications Consult being part payment in respect of the investment tour package in for the DCE.

However, The Daily Democrat’’s further checks reveal that no official receipt on the said monies was received from Adiyie Event Management Consult with respect to the amount disbursed,’ thereby making it difficult to track down the said monies.

Interestingly, though the monies were paid in August 2006 and June 2007 by the MDCE’’s, the trip never came on and the amount was never refunded either to the assemblies.

This paper’s investigation further gathered that expenditure was not captured in approved budget hence the expenditure lacks authority because the general assemblies did not give any approval before the said monies were paid to the company.

Furthermore, it also came to light that Adiyie Event Management and Publications consult is no where to be found and all efforts to track down the above mentioned company for further checks proved futile.

When this reporter contacted the MCE for Kwahu North, Mr. Nana Kesse on the telephone for his side of the story, he refused to comment whilst’ the cell phone of the DCE for Kwahu’ South Mr. Nana Onwana Asanti rang but there was no response.
