NPP uses EGC Cash For Campaign

Palaver -- ELECTRICITY bills, settled by customers, running into billions of cedis, collected on behalf of Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) by its agents (contractors), are now reportedly being doled out as NPP vote-buying gifts.

Reports reaching the 'Ghana Palaver', indicate that although the ECG agents in the regions have been "over-energetic" in getting customers to get their bills settled, promptly, there is very little evidence that the monies collected are being lodged in the ECG accounts.

According to sources, although the ECG headquarters have got wind of the misapplication of funds, management has not shown any positive concerns about the reports.

In a related development, a caller from a Bank at Prestea yesterday, hinted that one of the agents last Friday withdrew as much as 150 million from the bank, and immediately set out to distribute the money to some women at his office, as "political loans".

Some collected as much as five million each, as they danced and burst into songs, in praise of Kufuor, to the surprise of passers-by.

If, indeed, the monies being shared like Christmas candies belong to the ECG, then one wonders what magic will have to be involved in the post-election period, to cover the ECG losses in revenue.

Meanwhile, telephone calls to the ECG head office found its Public Relations men, claiming to be having "nothing to do with the daily accounts of the company".
