NPP Candidate In Trouble

… Theresa Tagoe To The Rescue, & Case Left Hanging

The fate of some nine fishermen who have been defrauded of various sums of money by the failed NPP candidate for the Ododiodoo constituency, Asafoatse Mankatah, hangs in the balance as the police appear unable to expedite action on the case due to political interference.

Asafoatse Mankatah, who has admitted collecting various sums of monies, ranging between eight million cedis (8,000.000.00) and fifteen million (15,000.000.00), from the fishermen, was arrested and handed over to the James Town Police sometime in the early parts of this year, but was release almost immediately when the NPP MP for the Ablekuma South constituency, Hon. Theresa Tagoe, intervened.

Some of the aggrieved victims of Asafoatse Mankatah’s alleged fraudulent dealings stormed the offices of The Ghanaian Lens over the weekend and accused Hon. Theresa Tagoe of not honouring her word to them. According to the fishermen, when Hon Theresa Tagoe was trying to secure the release of Mankatah from detention at the James Town Police Station, she promised them that she would personally see to it that their monies were refunded to them.

“Several weeks now, nobody is telling us anything, and we are beginning to believe that the Asafoatse Mankatah’s political connections are preventing us from getting justice,” a spokesman of the fishermen told The Ghanaian Lens. Meanwhile checks by The Ghanaian Lens with the Police indicate that even though only five million cedis has been deposited with the police by Asafoatse Mankatah, the police are not too keen on sending the case to court to prosecute him.

Observed one of the aggrieved victims of Asafoatse Mankatah, “we are convinced that the police are not interested in pursuing the matter to court because of Asafoatse’s political connections; we are therefore calling on Hon Theresa Amerley Tagoe to honour her promise to us and see to it that our monies are refunded to us immediately, otherwise they should allow the police to send the matter to court.”

As at the time of going to press, all efforts made to reach Hon. Theresa Tagoe proved futile. But The Ghanaian Lens will endeavour to get her side of the story.
