Minority boycott, is it orders from above?
The opposition NDC minority group?s ?indefinite? parliament boycott is reported to have been instigated by the orders of the party?s ?founder? reports the Accra Daily Mail newspaper.
An informant told the newspaper on Thursday that the minority?s decision was taken at a meeting with the ?founder, NDC MPs, party big shots, members of some other pressure group.
Addressing journalists in parliament on Thursday, the minority leader, Alban Bagbin tried to give the boycott a parliamentary spin.
He said the action followed the deputy attorney general, Emmanuel Owusu Ansah?s reported referral of the deputy minority leader, Doe Adjaho to the Privileges Committee for serving a writ on the speaker of parliament contrary to provisions in Article 117 of the constitution.
The article immunes the Speaker and officers of parliament from being served legal writs in and around Parliament House according to the deputy attorney general, Mr. Adjaho breached the constitution.
Mr. Bagbin told journalists that the minority would continue to boycott proceedings because the majority side will pass the bill regardless of their concerns, which he said was unacceptable.
