Mahama, Awoonor To Get $10m In Sinopec Oil Deal?

President Mahama and Professor Kofi Awoonor ,Chairman of the council of State stand to collect 10 million dollars each from Chinese company Sinopec once they get the green light to pump and distribute Ghana’s oil, in a deal that is against all norms of business practice and that undermines parliament and the people of Ghana.

The question we ask is how these individuals negotiated this deal without it being scrutinized by parliament to get this kind of money?

Credible information reaching us from the Ministry of Energy last night will see Energy Minister Dr Oteng Agyei offer his resignation by the end of this week as he and other cabinet ministers including Foreign minister Alhaji Mohamed Mumuni opposed these monies being paid by Sinopec to the President and Mr Awoonor especially in an election year.

Our source, who is based at the Ministry of Energy and is currently seconded to the Ministry of Finance to support Dr Seth Tekpeh, Deputy Minister of Finance said the inclusion of Professor Kofi Awoonor, Chairman of the council of state and someone who has nothing to do with energy issues raised several objections. However President Mahama was said to have assured other cabinet members that they will each get a commission (whatever that means)

once a component document giving sovereign guarantees worth 270 million dollars for the company to start distributing oil from the jubilee wells goes through, however Dr Oteng Adjei made his feelings known calling the President’s actions a betrayal of trust.

There is a lot of disquiet and anger at the Ministry of Energy and GNPC considering the fact that the Tema Oil Refinery is currently not operating at full capacity with workers not being paid for the last 2 months . There are also outstanding arrearsowed creditors yet members of the Board and the government are preparing themselves eagerly to share huge windfalls from the monies released by Sinopec.

We call on all Ghanaians to join hands to support Dr Oteng Adjei resist the criminal intentions of President Mahama and Professor Kofi Awoonor to stop them grabbing this 10 million dollars. Why we cant we use this money to invest in the Tema Oil Refinery?

The New Free Press will be back this Thursday with more on this story and another developing Story on how Dr George Sipa Yankey has virtually turned the Ghana Gas Company into a citadel of corruption and naked thievery.
