Kufuors Nephew On Way Back To Gwsc

... Adade C'sion report or no report
THE composition of the all-inclusive Kufuor family Government is not over yet. This time round, the President's nephew, Mr Kobby Kessie, a former deputy director (Finance/Administration) of the Ghana Water and Sewerage Company (GWSC), whose name came up in a ?70 million scandal, over the order for receipt books, is being brought back, after the termination of his appointment, to occupy a higher position of a General Manager of the company.

Although the Government's White Paper on the Adade Commission's report, which probed into malpractices in the company, is yet to be published, it is learnt from impeccable sources that Mr Kessie's name is among those against whom adverse findings had been made. The same sources, however, have given the hint that Mr Kessie's name is being removed from the report, to clear the path for him to assume his new position.

It will be recalled that Mr Kessie was given the sack by Mr Charles Adjei, Managing Director, when there was an "alarm blow", over the purchase of the receipt books, which will outlive ages and documents and last for centuries.

In the course of the "crisis", the Serious Fraud Office (SFO) also carried out its own investigations, which found no wrong-doings in the purchase of khaki, used in sewing uniforms for the workers. Because, the SFO report is expected to exonerate a whole lot of officials, wrongfully sent home, the sources have revealed that Mr Yaw Barimah, Minister of Works and Housing, is insisting that the report rather be shelved.

Instead, the witch-hunt continues with more innocent persons being asked "to pick up their hats and go home." With these pre-emptive acts, one wonders what form the Government White Paper would take, in a situation, where the Minister has become the sole commander, determining the fate of workers, according to his wishes.
