Govt Official Arrested in UK For Drugs

An official of Ghana's ruling government has been arrested in an apartment in Clapham Park Estates, south west London in connection with substances believed to be cocaine, a class A drug in the wee hours of Tuesday December 2nd, sources close to Police say.

The Ghana government official, whose identity is currently being withheld for investigation purposes is believed to have travelled seventeen times between Ghana and the United Kingdom in the year 2008 alone apparently on a Ghanaian Diplomatic passport.

Deep throat sources close to the investigation revealed that the official, a man in his early fifties has been under police surveillance for the past two years. It is believed the suspect could be arraigned before a UK court as early as monday December 8.It would be recalled that in November 2005, a member of parliament of Ghana's ruling party, Eric Amoateng was arrested at the Newark (N.J) Liberty International Airport in connection with smuggling heroin into the United States and has since been jailed.There are over 6,000 Ghanaians currently being held in various UK prisons for narcotics-related offences.
