Attempt To Dupe Minister fails (0)

Roads and Transport Minister Dr. Richard Anane would have been seriously embarrassed if he had not taken his time to scrutinise cheques sent to him to sign.

An insider who disclosed this to the Daily Guide said the Minister found out that a cheque for ?230 million presented to him for signature should have been for only ?23 million.

?This is not the first time something like this has happened. It has happened on several occasions.? He recalled.

He did not say whether or not some punitive action has been taken against the presenters of the cheques but observed that currently, the Minister is being too careful in the release of funds, which has caused undue delays in the payment of road contractors.

Chief Director Osei Asamoah of the Ministry has however denied that there has been undue delay in the payments of road contractors adding cheques for disbursement was signed last Wednesday February 25, 2004.
