Electorates assault Assembly members for rejecting President’s Nominee

Electorates in the Fanteakwa South District verbally assaulted the members of the Assembly for rejecting the President’s Nominee for the Assembly.

The President’s Nominee, Mr Kwabena Adjabeng Ntori, a retired educationist and former Fanteakwa Constituency Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), polled 10 votes as against 15 ‘no’ votes cast by the Assembly Members at a special meeting to confirm him as a District Chief Executive(DCE).

Per the Legislative Instrument on the confirmation of the DCE, since the nominee failed to acquire half of the total votes cast at the special meeting, the Assembly had to reject the President’s Nominee.

Immediately the results were announced, two young electorates who were present at the Assembly, started raining insults on the Assembly Members, and even threatened to assault them but were restrained by the police.

After the final announcement by Mr Eric Kwakye Darfour, the Eastern Regional Minister, he said he was going to communicate the decision of the Assembly to the President for further directives.

As the assembly sittings came to a close with almost all the electorates converging, they verbally assaulted, hooted and cursed the Assembly Members for voting against their wish.
