First Lady urges churches to help fight child abuse

First Lady, Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo, has urged churches to join her in fighting against child abuse and be concerned about the welfare of children, particularly their education.

She was pleased that, the Presbyterian Church is not only passionate about education, but the kind of education that produces patriotic and righteous citizens.

Mrs Akufo-Addo made the statement on Sunday, February 25, 2018 at the dedication of the Chapel of the Covenant Presbyterian Church at Dzorwulu in Accra.

The First Lady in her address commended all those who had contributed to the growth of the school including the past and present headmistress and staff of the school, as well as former Reverend Ministers, Catechists and session members both past and present for a job well done and for pushing a school which began as a Nursery in 1992.

She more importantly commended their focus on quality education that has produced a track record of 100% passes in the BECE with all pupils gaining admission into top Senior High Schools and thus receiving the award of Overall Best Student and Best Teacher in Presbyterian Private Schools within the Ga Presbytery.

She was happy for the fact that the church which has journeyed from January 1981, using the school premises for their Sunday services can now boast of a beautiful church building which will serve its purpose of providing a comfortable environment for its members to worship God.

The First Lady admonished the audience of very vital lessons to be learnt from the history of the church, as they dedicated the auditorium.

“The first is that, with faith in our hearts, supported by purpose and perseverance, the most impossible task shall become possible and the other lesson is that, each stage of the journey provides a foundation to be built upon to achieve the next stage,” she said.

“This is the way forward to building our own lives, as well as the lives of our communities and our society at large,” she added.

She advised members and executives to continue with the dedication and determination of their leaders to enable the church continue with the good work of providing Godly education and training to society.

To this end, she asked the church to use the pulpit to join hands with the government in bringing attitudinal changes in citizens with regards to galamsey and degradation of land and river bodies in the country.

The Dzorwulu branch of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana was started in January 1981 with Mrs. Alberta Quartey, the proprietress of Alsyd Academy allowing Mrs. Juliana Acheampong, to use the school’s premises for Sunday services.

Rev A.L. Kwansa, District Minister of Kaneshie District on 24th May in the same year, later inaugurated it.
