It’s unnatural for Catholic Priests not to marry - Bishop

An Archbishop Emeritus of the Kumasi Diocese Most Reverend Peter Akwasi Sarpong has revealed that it is not natural for catholic priests and Reverend Sisters not to marry.

“A priest is a human being and if he is a proper human being then he should marry. If a sister is also a true woman then she should marry”, he revealed.

According to him, Peter one of the disciples of Jesus Christ was married buttressing his point with Mathew 8:14 which states, ‘When Jesus came into Peter’s house, he saw Peter’s mother-in-law lying in bed with a fever’. He explained that it was a clear manifestation Peter one of the lieutenants of Jesus Christ was indeed married.

The man of God disclosed that Catholic Priests elsewhere in the world are married.

He however observed that those who choose not to marry have renounced marriage for the sake of the Kingdom of heaven and persons who are not ready to follow this to the latter should go and marry.

“But if it is because of heaven you join priesthood, then you are making a mistake. It is not only priests who will make it to heaven”, he said.

The Archbishop Emeritus said Mathew 4:19 clearly saw Jesus call for his disciples to follow him and they also realized Jesus himself was not married reason that has been introduced into the church.
