Christians need Holy Spirit to overcome sin - Rev. Minister

A Retired Bishop of the Methodist Church of Ghana, The Rt. Rev. MacLean Kumi on Sunday admonished the Christian community to allow the Holy Spirit to abide with them forever in their resolve to overcome the world.

He said events in the world pointed to the fact that Satan had a grip on the affairs of men and this required the intervention of Christians to salvage the world.

Rt. Rev. Kumi was delivering the sermon at a special church service to mark the celebration of Trinity Sunday at the Bethel Methodist Church in Tema in the Greater Accra Region.

The theme for the celebration was "Experience the glory of God in your life". He urged Christians to yearn for the Holy Spirit in order to be empowered to withstand the pressures and temptations of this world.

Rt. Rev. Kumi noted that in a world full of lust and sinful desires, it required only the power of the Holy Spirit of God to walk in uprightness and righteousness.

The retired Bishop said as the active force of God, the Holy Spirit responded quickly when called upon to intervene in the affairs of men and asked Christians to always invite the Spirit into their life.

In spite of the machinations of the devil, he reminded Christians to be steadfast in the Lord and glorify God in all their endeavors but not to succumb to the dictates of the world to sin against God.**
