Christians urged to use Xmas to proclaim gospel of Christ

Wa, Dec. 26, GNA - Reverend Emmanuel Atama, a lecturer at the Wa Cam= pus of the University for Development Studies (UDS), said the best way Christians should respond to the news about the birth of Jesus Christ on Christmas Day was to use the period to proclaim the gospel of Christ. He, therefore, urged Christians to stay away from ungodly behaviours during the celebration of Christmas.

The celebration should prepare Christians adequately for the final Christmas, which according to him was the second coming of the saviour Jesu= s Christ. Rev Atama said this when he was delivering a Christmas sermon in the Presbyterian Church at Wa in the Upper West Region.

It was on the theme: 93On this day a saviour is born".

Rev. Atama who is also the Pastor in charge of the Presbyterian Church at the UDS campus in the town, said many people including the rich, the poor, the wise and the powerful in society responded immediately in various ways when the news about the birth of the saviour Jesus Christ got to them. He said while some expressed joy by singing songs of praises on to the lord, others rushed to see for themselves and afterwards started announcing it publicly even at the risk of their lives.

Reverend Atama said the way the shepherds responded to the news indicated that every Christian is an evangelist or a pastor. He therefore urged Christians not to think that proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ was the responsibility of only the ordained evangelist and pastors.

Churches should use the period to organise more conventions in order to win many lost souls for Christ while their congregations also reflected on the significance of the day, which teaches them to say no to ungodly things on earth.

He urged them to use the day to forgive each other of their sins and pray to God to have mercy on the lost and troubled souls.
