The last group of Ghanaian pilgrims have been successfully airlifted from the Yakubu Tali International Airport in Tamale to Saudi Arabia to partake in the 2025 Hajj pilgrimage.

A viral video shared on X captured the moment as the last batch of pilgrims prepared to board their flight, marking the completion of the nationwide airlifting operation.

The video was captioned, “The last batch of Muslim pilgrims embarking on this year's Hajj from the Yakubu Tali Airport in Tamale have departed for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.”

The airlift exercise began on May 10, 2025, using an Airbus A330-941 operated by Lion Air, with flights scheduled daily until May 15, 2025.

The first batch, comprising 425 pilgrims, departed on May 13 en route to Madina, Saudi Arabia.

At a farewell ceremony at the Tamale airport for the first batch of pilgrims, the Minister of the Interior, Mohammed-Mubarak, Muntanka, reaffirmed the government’s dedication to ensuring a smooth pilgrimage for Muslims across the country.

“The government has worked tirelessly to facilitate this year’s Hajj for Muslims, including reducing fees and processing the passport application for pilgrims,” he stated.

He encouraged pilgrims to represent Ghana positively while abroad.

“Remember your country and pray for us, as well as for the John Mahama-led administration, so that we may all benefit from a well-run government,” he added.

He also assured the Muslim community that the government remains committed to supporting future pilgrimages and enhancing the welfare of Ghanaian Muslims.
