Soldiers must maintain solid discipline - Dr Tetteh

Dr Lawrence Tetteh, an International Evangelist, has called on Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) to continue to lead the way by sustaining their commitment to discipline to be the vanguards of national stability.

He said the GAF should also uphold national cohesion in order to have one Ghana, stressing: “We are all involved in building our motherland.”

Dr Tetteh, who was addressing Ghana Armed Forces Religious Parade in Accra on the theme: “Building the virtue of religion; the unwritten military regulation for a good soldier,” said the soldiers need a solid united front to ensure national cohesion.

Drawing the attention of the GAF to the dangers of offences, he said offences are parallel to the truth, honesty and service to humanity and could jeopardise the spirit de corps among the soldiers, to live up to their mandate to defend the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the nation.

Dr Tetteh, Founder and President of UK-based Worldwide Miracle Outreach, said offence is very harmful to victims especially when they keep it within themselves for a long time, and this hampers productivity.

He said lack of forgiveness is what leads to political conflicts, fighting amongst the citizenry, and resentment towards one another.

He said therefore; the nation would live in peace only if the people take out offences from their hearts and think of the country first.

He said Ghana could have a good standing if the citizenry adopts the professional zeal and discipline of the GAF, which has been sustained over the years.

During an intercessory prayer declared in the name of God that the destabilisation, disease portfolio and other tragedies that have besieged the sub-region would not be extended to Ghana.

Vice Admiral Matthew Quashie, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) asked the soldiers not to allow distrust and other parochial motives to undermine the bond of unity and belongingness in the GAF.

He said as the CDS he would sit down idle for the GAF to slip into disunity and asked the officers and men to close their ranks to facilitate oneness of purpose to defend the nation.

Dr Sahmudeen Salih Harun, a Muslim Scholar asked the soldiers to be well-behaved, duty conscious and continue to maintain their strong tradition of discipline.

He condemned the killings of innocent people by religious zealots in the name of religious values.
